San Antonio Housing Market Going Strong

San Antonio’s real estate market was off to a healthy start this year.  In the first quarter of 2013, 4,460 existing homes were sold.  According to the San Antonio Board of Realtors, this is an increase of 13.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2012.    In March, 1,826 homes sold, which was an increase of 10.4 percent from the same period last year.

In addition, house prices continue to increase.  The median home price average was $156,900 for the first quarter, which was an increase of 3 percent from the first quarter of last year.  The median home prices was $158,900 in March 2013.

This year, National Police Week falls on May 12 through May 18.  In 1962, Pres. John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which the 15th falls as National Police Week.  Tens of thousands of law enforcement officers worldwide are in Washington DC this week.  They will participate in a series of planned events designed to honor officers who’ve fallen in the line of duty.  The Memorial originally started as a gathering of approximately 120 survivors and law enforcement officers in Senate Park in 1982.  Since then, the event has evolved into a number of events which attracts thousands of survivors and law enforcement officers to the nation’s capital each year.

San Antonio Rated One of Top Ten Cities for Relocation

Based on a survey conducted by U-Haul, San Antonio ranked number five in top cities for relocation.  Texas ranked a total of three times with Austin ranking number six and Houston ranking number one.   The 2012 report considered every city in the country regardless of its size.  In the recent 12 month period, over 1.6 million one-way U-Haul truck transactions were used to determine the top US relocation destinations.  According to Joanne fried, a U-Haul spokeswoman,  U-Haul did not survey trucks and trailers rented for one-way trips to Houston, but consider the transaction and indication of a change in residence.

San Antonio’s Housing Market in March

We recently reported how the remodeling market in San Antonio was improving along with how the city is graded as a business-friendly city by entrepreneurs.  The city continues to offer a stable and growing economy along with its continuously improving housing market.

In March, home prices and sales were up again in San Antonio, according to the San Antonio Board of Realtors.  The housing market continues to improve and experience impressive gains for the beginning of the spring season.

In March 2012, a total of 1,826 homes were sold compared to the March 2012 sales of 1,556 homes.  The median price of homes was $158,900 for March 2012 which is a slight increase over the $158,600 median price of March 2012.   The average price of a home was $194,271 for March 2013, which was an impressive increase of the average price in March 2012 of $185,549.
